About
In the 1960s, Fran and Wendell "Bill" Greathouse purchased what is now Zero Cattle Ranch. They built a home on the property and lived out the rest of their days ranching and taking care of the land. With a combination of several thick woods, improved pasture, and rolling hills, the ranch not only provides a home for cattle, but countless other wildlife as well. Native species on the ranch include turkeys, whitetail deer, mourning dove, and geese.
Bill began experimenting with different cross breeding and genetics and came to develop the "Zero" breed for which the ranch gets its name. The breed is an all white, muscular breed with a mix of Charolais, Angus, Beefmaster, and other cattle breeds. The ranch currently maintains a small pure bred herd of "zeros" with 3 working bulls and more on the way.
We are a cow calf operation. We have about 200 head of mama cows who have a calf every year. We raise the calves until weaning weight, when they are then sold to a stocker to continue growing. The ranch is around 700 acres and experiences hot summers and cold winters. In addition to our Zero breed, we also have registered Red and Black Angus cattle, as well as commercial cattle.
We maintain a deworming and vaccination program to ensure proper health for our cattle, much like for house hold pets.
Be on the lookout for upcoming bull sales and our own custom beef.
